in Meta di Sorrento comes the Olympic Torch which will light up the Cauldron in Rome in the 1960 edition of the Games. The sacred fire itinerary, ritually sparked in Olympia on August 12th, had been studied by a specific CONI committee (Olympic Torch Division) yet created in 1956, announcing trials to enlist the athletes who would take part in the Passing of the Torch. The course featured, among other things, the docking in Syracuse of the fire carried, leaving from Zéas harbour, by the school ship Amerigo Vespucci.
