1962: British Official David Whyte (the elegant man with a moustache) meets the Sinigaglia family: Giorgio, the amateur; his parents, Attilio and Lina Levi, the oldest couple; Giorgio's wife and daughter. For the only time, 19 years later, the official meets in Piazza Maggiore those people whom, in 1943 (when Giorgio was just a boy), he had helped to run to Switzerland during an initiative organized by the National Liberation Committee of Modena, following the Facists persecution on Jew families. Hailing from Venice, the Sinigaglias had moved to Bologna in the 1930s, following the expansion of their commerce business. They will be back in Bologna, after a year and a half as refugees, at the end of the war, starting a pacific life in the Italian Republic and meeting in May 1962 the man who had helped them, with whom they stop by the Partisan Memorial and, inevitably, in front of the Nettuno.
