During the funicolar rise to the Mucrone, toward the shelter, in Giuseppe Barzizza's film we can see how the "Old Church" of the Oropa Sanctuary looked like, victim of a troubled story: from a 1885 project, it was supposed to rise a New Church, with a new facade and a new dome, more majestic, suiting the importance of such a place. However, around 1920 - year of the fourth centennial crowning of hte Virgin, happening since 1620 - those works had completed the facade only. It was in the mid-30s, with a remarkable economic effort, the work could continue. Starting again in 1938, they will come to an end in 1941, giving the church the look it has now.
