Color footage shot by Renzo Barzizza during an Easter outing to Monesi, a ski resort located between Liguria and Piedmont at the foot of Monte Saccarello and Monte Frontè, then renowned as the “Little Ligurian Switzerland.” The camera follows moments of the ascent on the chairlift: a young woman, Pippo Barzizza, and the brothers Mario and Romeo Salesi are filmed as they take turns climbing onto the suspended chairs. The footage first shows the green landscape at the valley’s base, with meadows and spring grass, then accompanies the climb toward the snow-covered peaks, reflecting the transitional season between spring and the year’s last snow. Inaugurated in the 1950s, the Monesi chairlift was one of the first modern infrastructures for winter tourism in inland Liguria, facilitating access to the Ligurian Alps and promoting skiing and excursions, while offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
