On March 8th, 1962, the train from Lecce and going to Milan goes off-rails just before entering the train station of Castel Bolognese. 13 people died, more than 90 were injured. The tragedy happened, as it was later proved, due to the forgetfulness to reduce speed from 110 Km/h to 30 Km/h, due to the ongoing work-in-progress in the station requiring to switch on another rail.
