On July 15th, 1976, in the inner yard of the "Calzificio Bloch" in Reggio Emilia, the City and Province Council was held. The company, founded in 1910 by Giuseppe Menada and bought by Giuseppe Bloch 1948 went bankruptcy on July 6th, 1976. Starting that same day, over 500 female workers from Reggio Emilia occupied the facility, arranging to work by day and sitting-in by night. It went on for two years. During that time, the "calzettaie" involved other workers in trouble and the hosiery factory became the place of female union fights. the hosier factory yard became a think tank, and from here passed by politics and trade unionist and city and regional councils took place there.
