A hot morning in the Sicilian countryside. A woman walks by carrying an amphora on her head, and a bundle of timber under her arm. A man in a wide straw hat grazes two cows on the hay, held together by the yoke. However, it is a young boy who is the film's protagonist: between somersaults and jumps, he too tries his hand at these peasant activities, perhaps still seen as just a game.
