In 1960, a relay race dedicated to the Olympic Torch of Rome was organised. This acted as a connecting thread between two fulcrums of classical civilisation: Athens and Rome, places of Magna Graecia. The torch also passed through the municipality of Maiori, on the Amalfi coast.
