In 1941, Adolfo Franzini, an Italian soldier in the Italian Expeditionary Corps in Russia (CSIR), documents the journey to the Russian front. During the stopover in Transylvania, the soldiers are busy preparing food: an animal is barbecued, while another soldier stirs a steaming pot.
