In 1975, Giacomo Carretta documented a summer excursion to Passo Fedaia, covering the dam, the lake, and the slopes of the Marmolada. The camera captures the pass sign, cars and tourists at rest, a Volkswagen T2 passing by, and panoramic views of the massive dam with its buttresses. The landscape dominates the footage: the lake’s waters, the Dolomite peaks, and the Marmolada Glacier are filmed from multiple perspectives. In the final sequences, wide high-altitude panoramas of the Dolomites appear, likely filmed after ascending by cable car. Today, the Marmolada is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, but its glacier is among the most vulnerable: in recent years, it has lost meters of thickness and volume, a retreat considered irreversible that could lead to its disappearance by mid-century.
