In 1967, Giuseppe Lenzi filmed the Glacier du Géant in Chamonix, ascending by cable car to the Mont Blanc peaks. The red cabins move suspended above the glacial white, while the camera frames crevasses, snowy slopes, and skiers moving as small as ants on the expanse of ice. Lenzi recounts in a voice-over: "The engines are already running, ready for departure," as the cabin detaches from the station, and later adds: "We are above the Glacier du Géant, over 50 km² in area, with ice thickness that exceeds 400 meters in certain points. A unique spectacle in the world."
