The title “Cimon de la Pala” appears superimposed on images of edelweiss (stelle alpine) that introduce the sequence. Giacomo Carretta in 1972 filmed images of a summer trip to Passo Rolle, in the heart of the Dolomites. The shots offer wide views of the Cimon della Pala (3184 m), recognizable by its jagged profile and the vertical incision that characterizes its summit. The scenes alternate panoramas of the Pale di San Martino, high-altitude meadows and patches of residual snow, along with the pass road and some typical buildings of the area, including huts and a pension perched on the slope.
