The Paduan "Prato", whose story goes as back as the first roman settlements, tells of a life of highs and lows - the rising popularity in the classical era, almost abandoned in the Middle Age - but always at the centre of the city events. In XVIII Century, thanks to Andrea Memmo, it took the shape it has today, as a project to reclaim the area (subject to recurring swamping) and to set the sorrounding crown of monuments, which renders it the fifth biggest square in Europe.
