The "Friendship Meeting" was born after the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, causing over time an easing of tension on the two fronts of the "Iron Curtain" by inviting and formally recognizing the DDR athletes - despite the prefecture's prohibition to show its flag. Soon moved to Siena, in 1973 amateur Sauro Ravaglia films some of its stages. In this excerpt, we can see the Olympic Champion and holder of the 110 m hurdles world record Rod Milburn, who equalled that very record (13"1, manual timing) on that day recorded in Zurich two weeks earlier. The race hasn't been filmed, but we do see the immediate aftermath and the awarding ceremony.
