Several figures of note in national and international politics attend the "National Solidarity Conference For the Independence and Sovereignty Of the Southern Africa Poeple Against Colonialism, Racism and Apartheid" (November 25-26, 1978). On the stage in the Romolo Valli Theatre in Reggio Emilia there are: Vittorio Parenti (Province President); Giuseppe Soncini (then City Council member); Ugo Benassi (Reggio Emilia Mayor); Giancarlo Pajetta (Italian Communist Party); Oliver Tambo (President of the African National Congress); Marcelino Dos Santos (FRELIMO); Sam Nujoma (South-West Africa People's Organisation - SWAPO).
