In April 1959, the Galeazzi family vacations on Gran Sasso. Footage shows panoramas of mountains surrounding Hotel Campo Imperatore in the Gran Sasso massif. Visible peaks include Monte Aquila (2,293 m), Monte Camicia (2,564 m), and Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Apennines (2,912 m). Shots alternate skiers descending and tourists strolling near the hotel, highlighting the historic cable car inaugurated in 1934, connecting the aquilan basin to the western side of Gran Sasso. In the 1950s, the area was among the largest and most modern ski resorts in Europe, with a cableway linked to a chairlift and a ski lift. In 1988, a rockslide damaged the cable car, replaced by the new system still in use today.
