Between 1935 and 1940, Max De Carli filmed a sequence of summer life in a mountain pasture in the Orobie Alps. The scene opens with three boys walking across rocky terrain overlooking a small alpine lake. They wear shorts, shirts and knee-high socks—the typical high-altitude hiking clothing of the time. The camera then frames a herd of cows grazing in the open, accompanied by their herder. The landscape, stark and shaped by rocks and grassy slopes, reflects the essential environment of the alpine pastures of the Bergamo Prealps, reached from the valleys that descend toward Lake Iseo.
