In September 1964, Sante Rudatis filmed the inauguration of the Città di Fiume Hut, located on the slopes of Monte Pelmo (Dolomites, Belluno) and converted from the ancient Malga Durona, dating back to around 1600. The camera shows a large crowd gathered outside, consisting of men in formal attire and alpine hats and women in traditional folk costumes. A musical band is present, accompanying the moment with wind instruments. The climax of the event is the cutting of the red ribbon, officially sanctioning the transformation of the malga into a hut, inaugurated by the CAI Section of Fiume. The shot also highlights the structure: a two-story building, light masonry, dark red fixtures, immersed in a high-altitude alpine environment, surrounded by meadow and sparse vegetation, typical of the Dolomite slopes. The images also allow us to grasp the historical context: the CAI section of Fiume, founded in 1885 as the Fiumano Alpine Club (CAF), faced exile during the Second World War and was revived in the post-war period, while the hut becomes a symbol of the continuity of the Fiumano presence in the Dolomites.
