Garibaldi Square is unmistakable yet in the 1930s, while work is in progress just under Ponte di Mezzo - built with just one bay in spite of the original three-span structure after it was demolished by the Germans in withdrawal at the end of the war and by the bombs, during July 1944. It yearly hosts the "Gioco del Ponte" ("Game of hte Bridge"), medieval re-enactment held in Pisa in June.
