Since 1660 - built on the site of the old 11th Century one known as "Old Bridge" - Ponte di Mezzo was the urban and civil life equilibrium point of Pisa, until it s collapse under the Allies' bombs and the German mines in July 1944. Rebuilt in 1950, not without delays and just more East, it kept on being the host site of the yearly held Game named after the Bridge itself. In the Game, the "Magistrature" (the districts of Pisa) challenge each other in teams depending on the side of the River Arno they belong to ("Tramontana", North; "Meridione", South) trying to push a cart toward the opposite bank, while the other team attempts to do the same. We also see, at the beginning of the parade and at the end of the film, Solferino Bridge, which had an equally illfated story.
